Google Maps Surrender to the Law of China.



BEIJING - Google is rumored to be subject to the rule of Chinese law in order to get permission to open the Google Maps service at the Bamboo Curtain country.

The news is obtainable Dow Jones Newswires quoted the source as saying the Bureau of Surveying and Mapping is reviewing applications from Beijing Guxiang Information Technology Co., which operates the Google mapping service in China.

Beijing has so far given permission for dozens of companies to provide web mapping after new regulations were introduced last year requiring all companies providing Internet map and location services in China to apply for approval.

Quoted by Reuters on Thursday (16/06/2011), foreign companies who want to provide services in China are required to create joint ventures or partnerships with local companies.

China has the world's largest online population of 477 million, according to official data.

Google has seen a slide lucrative search market share of China after seeing a local competitor Baidu. But the tension between Google and Beijing increased over the past few days, after the web giant's claim U.S. cyberattacks from China
